2013, so far

1st Division Men

The 1st division men started play earlier this month in the combined Cowichan Cup/Times Cup league.  What is that you ask? Well it’s a combination of play between clubs, like ours, that do not have Premier teams – the Cowichan Cup (appropriately named, don’t you think?) and then games with clubs who do have Premier teams, JBAA/CW/UVic – the Times Cup.

The first two games were against CW and JBAA (Times Cup) and did not go in our favour.  The good news though, the score for and against improved significantly from one game to the next.

Our last two games were Cowichan Cup match-ups and in these we faired much better.

On February 16th, our old friends from Port Alberni came down and were sent home on the wrong end of a 21-12 score.  Our first victory in 2013!

Yesterday, February 23rd, had us visiting Velox and in this case, had the visiting team returned home with a victory of 15-5!  We’re officially on a winning streak!

You can review the scores for the all teams on the BCRU website.

3rd Division Men

The mighty 3rds have only had a couple of games so far in 2013.  A forfeit by Nanaimo, a loss to CW and a victory against Powell River.  Their schedule picks up in March, when they play every weekend.  The 3rds schedule (and the rest of the teams) can be found on our website.

1st Division Women

The ladies have had a rather late start to their 2013 by comparison to the boys.  The only just played their first game yesterday, against Nanaimo, February 23rd.  They were unsuccessful unfortunately but as reigning BC Champs, the best is certainly yet to come!

Mini Rugby

The first mini rugby session of 2013 began today, February 24th!  The little Piggies have a busy spring ahead of them, with jamborees taking them from Oak Bay, to Langford, to Shawnigan Lake, to Nanaimo, to Comox, and Campbell River.  There will be black and green all over the Island this spring!  The mini schedule is also on the club website.

Joe McGeachy Memorial Tournament

And last but not least, this coming weekend brings the 10th Anniversary of the Joe.  Yup, 10.  The event will be held entirely at the Club this coming Friday and Saturday.  The schedule isn’t quiet finalized yet but will be sent out as soon as it’s ready.  The 1st division ladies will wrap up the day with a home game vs. Abbotsford.

Please come out for some rugby and memories.
