Red Arrow Brewing –  Thank You Day

February 20 – 1:00 pm onward

Please join us in celebrating great rugby, great beer and amazing sponsors of the club. We would like to take this day to give thanks to Red Arrow Brewing for all of the support they have provided the club, especially with the launch of the Piggy Pale Ale!

The celebration starts with a double header, men’s 1st and 3rds will face off against Westshore. Craig Harman of Glenora Creek Custom Meats is providing handmade bratwurst to go along with the delicious Piggy Pale Ale!

Rugby, beer and brats – what could be better?  Well how about a FLIP CUP TOURNAMENT ($30 per team of 6 including 2 pitchers of beer)  and music by Lawson Kelly?  It’ll be a great night – looking forward to seeing the Piggie Nation out in strength!

Premier Women 12 – Seattle Saracens 37

The ladies made the long trip south last weekend to play league-leading Seattle.  They left at 5:30 am and arrived a couple hours to spare, giving them plenty of time to warm up and get used to playing on turf.  This was the first time many of the girls played on artificial turf – it was definitely a different experience.

Seattle started strong making 24-0 in very short order.  and took a 27-0 lead into the half time break.

Piggies settled down in the second half, slowing the Seattle attack and stated producing on offence.  Rikki Wylie scored the first Cowichan try, which was converted by Quinn Battie.  The second try was a “Carolyn Special” – Running pretty much the entire field to score.  Convert unsuccessful.

In spite of the score line, there were some very promising elements in the game.   (Unsurprisingly) Scrummaging was excellent.  The Piggies won all of their own ball and and stole a handful of Seattle’s as well.

The game got a bit rough toward the end of the game but when the final whistle was blown, all of that was left on the field.

Seattle hosted a great post game party, both at the field and later at their local pub.  It was the pub where the Piggies exacted some measure of revenge by winning the boat race.

Players of the match when to Jammers and Laura.

The ladies have a bye this weekend and then return to the road with a trip to Capilano, February 27th.

Men’s Rugby

The 1st Division Men had a bye last weekend and the 3rds game was cancelled due to unplayable conditions at Westshore Parks & Rec.

Both teams will face Westshore this weekend and both sides will be focused on returning to the win column.   Both teams have the ability to put a strong game together but will need  more consistent, disciplined effort to get them back to winning ways.  The boys are looking forward to a double-header home game to bolster their numbers and their spirits.

REVISED:  Westshore is unable to field two sides so a combined sides, extended game will be played at 1:30 pm
