1st Division Women

Cowichan women’s team took on Bayside this saturday to start off the triple header (which included Comox).

It was a hard hitting game that saw a lot of tries being scored. Bayside had a very strong forward pack and used that to the benefit. They had a well structured game plan of crashing the forwards and doing a pick and go style. Which saw the Cowichan forwards on there back foot most of the time.

Once Cowichan finally got there hands on the ball it went wide, and it saw Carolyn Gudmundseth scoring 3 tries, Rikki Wylie a single , and Mackenna Haz crossing the line and converting 2 others.

The final score was 68-29 for Bayside and player of the Match went to Sherry Spence and Mckenna Haz.

The Cowichan vs United game is postponed.

1st Division Men

The tripleheader day was capped off by an exciting, feisty match between the Piggies and Bayside.  The Piggies started the game strong, dominating from the pack but handling errors limited Cowichan scoring to two penalties by Owen Wood in the first half.

Bayside withstood the pressure in the first half and slowly made the Piggies pay for not converting their early game chances.  The second half was a very physical affair and the Piggies, however, made Bayside work for their points and the win.  Final score 19-6.

In spite of the results, it was a pretty good day at Piggie Park.  Four games and lots of supporters cheering on all sides!  Our thanks to Shawnigan, Comox (particularly for the post game speech)  and Bayside for being part of it!

This weekend the boys travel north to play the Blacksheep.  The Sheep had a rough start to their season but recently started turning the corner with a win over Nanaimo. Port is always tough at home  and the Piggies will be looking to turn things around after last weekend…  which should make for a great battle!

Junior Rugby

The Junior Piggies have had an extremely busy week.  Starting on Saturday with the U14 boys hosting Shawnigan, to multiple games on Sunday, to hosting a touring side from England on Tuesday!

Our future is bright with so many Piglets taking the field on a regular basis!

Last Call at the Hearn’s

A truly wonderful reunion and remembrance was held last weekend at the Hearn family home – our first club house.  Members past and present attended, shared memories, a lot of laughs, and of course, a few songs.

Our profound tanks to Una Hearn and her family for inviting us all to her home for one ‘last call’.
