Mexico Women’s 7s to visit CRFC

July 6th, 2018

We’re very excited to announce that the Mexican Women’s 7s team will be visiting CRFC Wednesday, July 11!

As you may know, the Mexican Women’s 7s team is coached by our very own Piggie alumni Robin MacDowell.  Robin is bringing the team to Vancouver Island to acclimatize prior to the Rugby 7s World Cup in San Francisco, July 20-22.

For MacDowell, no visit to the Island would be complete without a pilgrimage to Piggie Park.

“The Mexican Women’s Rugby 7s World Cup Team is thrilled to be welcomed by the Cowichan Rugby Club in their final week of preparation for their first appearance at the Rugby World Cup Sevens.  For me it is going to a special opportunity for my athletes to enjoy Cowichan Rugby’s incredible hospitality and it is full circle to bring my team home to the Valley where my rugby journey all began. Rugby has taking me all over the world and it’s all thanks to my roots on Herd Road.” ~ Robin MacDowell

Piggiefest a huge success!

June 29th, 2018

Last weekend’s Piggiefest was a huge success!  The fun started Friday night and lasted till mid-day Sunday!  The weather was great, except the mini tornado that touched down and blew away a few tents, the food was amazing, and the rugby was alright too 😉

Tournament Winners

Congrats to the Nanaimo (men) and Dye-nosaurs (women) on winning the tournament.  The winners took home some sweet Red Arrow swag

Thank you sponsors and volunteers

Events like this do not go off without the help of sponsors and volunteers.  CRFC would like to thank the following:

Red Arrow – for everything, really
Dr Eric Meiner – for donating the pig for the roast and cooking it!  It was soooo good!
Pango – for feeding the late night revelers on Friday!
Mary Lionas, Chantel Clarke and Diana Weld – The best concession crew ever
Jason Finlayson – for loaning his sound system
McCandlesss Family Band – for putting on another great show!

All of the volunteers who got the grounds ready, ran the bar, picked up garbage, ran into town to get supplies, and all the other big and little things that had to get done.

And lastly to Kaelyn Palmer who organized the whole damn thing!  You’re a rock star girl!
