And we’re back

The Piggies resume play with this weekend after a long break.

However, before getting in the events to come, let’s take a moment to celebrate our U16 boys side for bringing home another BC Championships in December!  Our junior program won 2 BC titles this season, adding to the already impressive set of plaques hanging from the rafters in the clubhouse!

U16 Boys – BC Champions

After winning Island championship against CW, the U16 boys earned the right to play in the provincial finals. Held at UBCs Thunderbird Stadium on December 10th.   The boys faced Capilano, who had a last season surge to knock off the top seeded teams in the Mainland on their way to the finals.

The boys got up early and head over on the ferry. Unfortunately due to injury and family life only 17 of our 25 players could make the trip. As any Island team will tell you, the ferry ride is worth a try or two for the opposition. And so it was, Caps got off to a fast start going up 10-0 in the first 5 minutes.

Cowichan slowly worked their way back into the game. Controlling possession and putting them under pressure. With 10 minutes left in the first half the boys executed a beautiful set piece move from half to score under the posts. From that point on they never looked back. While Caps pressured at times and scored once or twice more the Piggies defense played hard and were rewarded with several tries.

Cowichan ended up victorious for the 2nd time in 3 years. It was great to see the group come together over the season and work towards our goal of making it to provincials. The team was a great mix of old and new players, with everyone playing roles in our successful season.

The future looks bright in the Junior program for Cowichan, with many of these boys back next year.

Team awards were presented with Team MVP, Aidan Kirkham

Congratulations to the boys and coaches.  The Piggie Nation is very proud of all of you and look forward to seeing you progress through the Club.

1st Division Men

The men have been training since the beginning of the month and are anxious to resume play, having not played since November.  Many thanks to Dave Cowie and Brentwood College for hosting indoor training for the guys.  Dave is a certified trainer now and set up a program for the team so they enter the second half of the season stronger and fitter.

This Saturday, the men host Castaway Wanderers at 1 pm.  This will be the second meeting of the season against CW.  The Piggies came away with the victory in the last match at Windsor and expect that CW will come to Piggie Park looking to be the home field spoiler.

The boys are looking forward to seeing a full sideline tomorrow!

1st Division Women

The Women resumed training this week but will be delaying their 2018 campaign as they are low on numbers.  They have forfeited their game this weekend but to return to action next weekend with a home match against Comox.
