1st Division Women

Last Saturday, the Cowichan women played a young Comox team.  The Kickers agreed to match numbers at 13 due to the Piggies being low on bodies.

The first half was very back and forth, with 3 ties a piece.   Cowichan’s tries came from speedsters  Carolyn Gudmundseth (2) and Rikki Wylie.  Unfortunately, an injury to Carolyn took their toll and Comox ran away with the game in the second half., scoring 5 converted tries.  Not only did the Piggies lose her speed but her leadership on the pitch as well.  Nonetheless, the Piggies battled on, adding 2 tries from Tyson Beaukeboom.

Players of the game were Rikki Wylie and Kaelyn Palmer.

This weekend the ladies face Westshore. WS is the multi-year Premier champion but this game is supposed to be developmental.  As the Piggies are rebuilding, this will be a great challenge to match up against a well-established program.

3rd Division Men

Last Saturday marked the return of the mighty 3rds!  The team was a great turn out of over 40’s, 1st div guys, a few juniors. It was a true 3rd div team!

The Piggies scored early, and often.  Comox put up a good fight and were rewarded for their efforts toward the end of the game.  But the final tally, not recorded as it was an exhibition game, strong favored Cowichan.

Captain McGarvey was singled out his players of the match as Ty Benson in the centres anf Louis Gudmundseth at 8 man.

Unfortunately due to low numbers (on both sides) the game this weekend is cancelled.  The 3rds will resume on September 29th at Castaway Wanderers.

1st Division Men

The 1sts will be hosting Westshore this Saturday!  The guys are looking forward to their first home game of the season and are hoping for a packed sideline.

Westshore’s Premier side is idle this weekend so it’s reasonable to expect them to show up with a big bench of reserves.  The Piggies faced a similar situation against Nanaimo a few weeks ago and performed courageously.  It was only in the end when the boys were gassed did the score get away from them.

Regardless, the Piggies will take whatever is thrown at them and play their hearts out.  It should be an exciting day of rugby!

Ol’Boys

The Ol’Boys side will start their season this weekend with a trip to the Mac to face the Ebb Tide.  It’s been a long time since the Piggies fielded a team in this ‘age grade’.  With the team have come new faces to the club, which is super exciting!  Good luck to the ol’boys!

Junior Rugby

Junior rugby has charged out of the gates this fall!  Last Sunday we held a “Try it for Free” event, in addition to the start of the girls 7s mini season and the U18 boys hosted Nanaimo!

The grounds got tidied the day before by a group of junior parents, the concession was serving delicious food – it was just an amazing day!

Merchandise / Fundraising

The hats are in!  The pre-ordered hats are available for pick up at the Club Thursday night and Saturday.

The Junior Piggies are now offering KidLED fundraising coffee at the concession. KidLED is a company created by our own Mckenna and Cooper Haz that helps local organizations raise money. $5 from every coffee bag sale will go to the Junior Piggies.  Please check out what KidLed has to offer on their website www.kidled.com.
