All others idle....

Interesting weekend with the results all showing some improvement all around. I was very impressed by the Women who dealt a very good SFU squad a good blow in their quest to become a senior women's power in the province.

The game started off with the speedy SFU team scoring first, then cowichan dug in and started playing their game. All the tries came from the hard work from the whole team.

Michelle Moore got player of the game for her great passing at scrum half, and her control of the game.

Cowichans game against Port Alberni got cancelled for MArch 21st. So they will have another bye this coming weekend and be back for a home game against James Bay at the end of the month, when there is a triple header at the CRFC!

The Senior Men also showed that is is coming and considering we had a total of 13 starters not playing for a variety of reasons this past weekend, the player depth of the club really came through with 3rds and 2nds all being moved up through the ranks to fill the voids.

A very gutsy win for the 1st's against Velox in front of a good crowd in Victoria. This was perhaps a come out game for this crew. Down 12-0 in the first five minutes, the locals boys came up with the next 28 points to eventually secure a 31-19 bonus point victory. Very impressive show of staunch defence for the last five minutes of the game were relentlence Velox pressure failed to break the solid Piggie goal line stance. Pretty impressive!

The win launched us up the standings into 7th place. Further gain and a playoff position in this league is now a reality. Considering this squad was playing Second Div rugby last season, to end up middle of the pack, at this time of the season in this league, is very credible. We have the potential this weekend to secure another victory against the winless Lakers from Burnaby. We need the resolve and bodies out to make this happen.

Our Prems were up against a formidible foe this weekend. A loaded Velox team took the field with a plethoragh of Carded and National players. The boys battled with heart and certainly if the ball bounced the right way a few times...a tackle here and a tackle there...the game would have been a lot closer. At 12-0 at halftime, the Gordon Head bunch were busy making changes to try and solve the staunch Cowichan resolve. Our scrums continue to power away and had the Velox pack going backwards for most of the game. How about U-17 National Player, Scottie MacLeod(now 18) from Cowichan coming in to hook against National team hooker, Mike Pletch from Velox...and Scott held his own! Great experience for this youngster! The final score was 26-3. Player of the match for Cowichan was Dan James.

This week sees the men taking on Burnaby who have yet to win a game, but will be hungry for victory for sure. Not sure what to make of the Burnaby writeup on BCRugby News...but have a gander...interesting.

Let's see lots out to training this week. The Prems are still mathmatically in the playoff hunt...who knows in this crazy league. The 1st Div boys are on the cusp and some resolve and coming together this week at training to secure the best possible chance to secure victory this weekend.
