STANDINGS AND OUTLOOK
With our last league games looming, the standings for all leagues have become very interesting. The next three games for all of our Senior teams is are very important....and all sorts of things can/will happen depending on the upcoming results.....
The final games next weekend for the Prems. and 1st Div. against Bayside have all sorts of interesting ramifications as far as the league standings end up. With UBC not gaining any points in the standings this weekend, there is a possibility that our Prems could pass them and end up in 8th place with a win this weekend. This would be excellent for our club considering this is our first year in this league. It would also put any thoughts of relegation to rest.....
Our 1sts have crept 5 points closer to the U-Vic Norsemen, who lost without gaining any bonus points. (Cowichan now has 26 pts. with U-Vic sitting at 30) A bonus point victory for our 1st's this weekend combined with a Norsemen loss (they play the Capilanos) will see Cowichan vault past U-Vic to sit in 4th place over all. 4th place means a home playoff date.......
The Women with their victory this past weekend will keep pace with U-Vic who won in Port Alberni. Both U-Vic and Cowichan's next games, vs Seattle and Kamloops respectively, are important as both are vying for placings for that all important 1st home playoff game.
So, with this said...every game this weekend is important.
Tuesday and Thursday training sessions this week are super important for the club to ramp up and prepare for this weekend's big games.
BREAK OUT WEEKEND FOR YOUNGSTERS
Young 18 year old Adam Nicholson out of Cowichan High School scored 3 trys against the Rowers this weekend in the 1st Div game. Adam was called up from the 3rds to fill in for an injury and performed way beyond expectations. Adam was rewarded as "Man of the Match" for his efforts. Another couple of 18 year olds performing beyond expectations is Scotty MacLeod out of Cow High and Casey Cavers out of Ladysmith. Both played full games in the front row for the 1sts this weekend and Casey got 10 minutes in the Prems. game at Hooker as he filled in for a yellow card in the front row.
Thor Heggluund also dressed this weekend, and although quite ill with the flu, made and appearence in the 1st's game. Marv Seymour out of Ladysmith, and the and the anchor of the 1st's front row, was tremendous crashing around the field and was rewarded with a nice try for the 1sts. In the Prems., 19 year old, Jake "Poptart" Robinson, made his debut at scrum half and played very well considering the pressure. Great crop of youngsters moving on up...
