Good weekend for Cowichan with two results yet to come in (3rd Div Men and U-18 Women)

The Premier Men, despite being down 8 starters, came out to play against a pretty formidable Velox side. The possession seemed to be in our hands yet Velox was able to intercept a pass and get a few bounces that we didn't get for the win. The game was exciting to watch and it ended with a big Cowichan push in the Velox end for the last 10 minutes. Robin McDowell had a good game as did Gord Kehoe, 18 year old #8 John Dubiel who scored another nice try and man of the match, Dan James, who struggled through some very sore ribs received in last weeks game. Good result. Although the boys are 0-8 on the season we feel we were in every game but one this fall against some very good opposition.

The numbers crunch hit out 2nd XV this weekend though due to the number of injuries and players away. When you have half the top team out with a variety of ailments, many 2nd XV boys stepped up to play Prems. leaving the firsts with less than the needed bodies to make up a team.

The women were powerful at Velox Saturday and came away with a handy 24-0 victory.

Great day of jr. rugby at the club on Sunday, the boys went three for three agaisnt CW today. Huge turn around for both the U15's & U19's as they were both beaten by 70 points respectively in their last matches against CW.

Our young teams are really starting to blossom now. With over 100 players registered for 4 teams the bodies are plentiful. Three wins against a formidable Oak Bay outfit Sunday was great to see. Player are starting to gel and hopefully we'll get some results in the playoffs.

PLAYERS IN THE NEWS

Of note we heard today that U-17 player, Patrick Kay has been selected for the Canada U-17 team. Patrick is still in the top 5 for scoring in the 1st Div Men's league and also had several games in at fullback for the Premier Men. Patrick is "one of those special players" that we seem to produce here in Cowichan. Congratulations to Patrick!

Michelle Moore of our Women's team has also been selected to the Women's National U-20 team which will travel to Florida for some games against the Americans.

Dave Hitchcock and Mike Moss were both invited to the Bermuda Classics Rugby Tournament via the Canadian Classics side.

RUGBY GEAR

We have a number of game worn jerseys that are in very good shape and we will be selling them off. They are the sturdy cotton heavy styles and come from several eras of rugby. They have numbers on the back. $20 each.
