TIDBITS

February CRFC Board Meeting was held Thursday evening at the club. 10 members in attendance.

Formally announced that the current president, John James, will not be standing as President for another term. Executive and club members reminded to put forward any new nominations for President to the nominating committee as soon as possible. The election will take place at May's AGM.

Sponsorship drive is starting to see some success. If interested in sponsoring the club please see Kristy Martin-Hale or one of the Board members.

Federal Infrastructure Grant and trying to get money is a slow complicated process. I am working on this despite being very busy in other areas of my life. My plea for someone else to take this and run with fell on deaf ears.

Club website was discussed and two board members are going to look after trying to get it updated with help from Denise and Brick.

Club did well financially in January which is normally a slow month.

Nanaimo's game is Surrey last weekend was apparently a fiasco at the end. Ref wanted to card a Surrey player and the player wouldn't come over to be carded nor would leave the field. Ref said if this continued, he would call the game. The player apparently kept on therefore the game was called with 10 minutes to go. Nanaimo won.......

Nanaimo, with SFU dropping out of the league have one less home game. So they are now at home 4 times and away 6 (5 times to the mainland)...

Our 3rds played Castaway Wanderers this past weekend and lost 17-5. Good game for the most part. Cowichan had a lot of inexperienced players.

A friend came to me with a picture out of the Encyclopedia Britannica online. It was a section about "Rugby in Canada" In the picture describing a "typical rugby game in Canada" It's a 1980 photo and it shows two teams playing with the with some big goofy guy with lots of hair carrying the ball about to go into a tackle against a Velox Player. Only thing the big goofy guy was wearing a blue Jersey in about 1980. I think there is only one big goofy guy now that was once a JBAA player and now hangs around the Piggie Clubhouse. In the picture are several other rugby guys you may remember...Mike Degoede, Tom Campbell (who works on my shift currently) Larry Hobday, Daryl Noulette and a bunch of recognizable Velox guys. Probably was a 2nd Div, game.
