Sun-Fest Wrap UpThanks to all the club members who volunteered their time to work the Beer garden for the 3 day Sun Fest extravaganza held this past weekend at Duncan's new Exhibition Grounds.
I figure we on average had 20 people on site working security and serving for all three days, not to mention the all the behind the scenes work by club members that went on. Basically 12 hour days from 1pm to 1am for many CRFC types.
The beer garden was licensed for 1200 people and was jammed for the big day on Friday even when headliner, Johnny Reid, took the stage. The crowd was good and lots of suds flowed in the sheering heat of the day. The crowd on Friday night was about 3 times as big as was at last years event at Avalon Farms - maybe 5000 people, at least 1000 RV's were parked on the grounds. Bodes well for future events at the site. Kudos to Greg Adams and his organizing crew.
Big thanks to Bob and Steph who liaised with the organizing group to get things on track. The women's 1st XV did most of the work serving and the big boys ran security. Long, hot days though and 1:00am Sunday morning was wrap up with food and drink was held under the big tent for all the volunteers that were left.
BC Bears vs Prairie Wolf Pack
Disappointing 43-6 loss for the BC Senior Men's side this past weekend in Calgary. Work to do here to get it turned around.
Canadian Rugby Championships
In Calgary...Few tidbits...The two BC U-16 Men's side's are doing well. A few CRFC players on these teams. BC U-18 Men, after being beaten soundly by Ontario, the John MacMillan coached BC team rebounded with wins over some of the other provinces. Patrick Kay is #4 in scoring for the tournament. Cassy Stevens is playing on the BC U-19 Women's team who have only lost 1 game.
Go the Rugby Canada Website or BC Rugby News for details.
Good luck to all BC Teams in the quest for gold.
Training
Okay folks...it's crunch time and preparations for Sept 11 are well under way. Let's get out to training in order to prepare for our Sept 11th KO.
New Faces
Two new faces in town with Peter Buday (Center/#10) and Michael Ray (Back Row) both from N. Ireland. Both were a big help at Sunfest this past weekend and look for them at training this week. We will also welcome another new face, a speedster from Manitoba, this week.
