Canada U20 WomenCanada's U20 women's team opened the 2010 North American Caribbean Rugby Association regional tournament with a seven try 43-0 victory over a Caribbean Select side. Cowichan Women's Scrum Half Michelle Moore is down with this team, she was the starting scrum half and was one of 3 players who played the whole game. Michelle also got selected to be the starting scrum half for the game against the Cayman Islands which seen the U20 Canadian girls take the Victory with a score of 62-0. Michelle and her team played the USA for there final match which saw the young Canadian team come out with another win, it was a tight game 6-3 was the final score.
This group of young ladies all paid their own way to this tournament as there is not a funding arrangement for the women. (Interestingly, the National Senior Women's team, which is ranked #4 in the World, is currently in London, UK for the IRB Women's World Cup. The women in this group had to mostly pay their way to this International event)
Michelle, who hails from Ladysmith High School and has played for the club's women's team for the last three years, is also active in other areas of the club having sat on the executive for 1 year as the Female Player's Rep. and also participates in many of the other volunteer activities the club participates in. Good on you Michelle for living your dream..... Maybe a shot at the Olympics in 2016!
