The Piggies started their season with an impressive victory over CW last Saturday – even more impressive given several veteran players were not available and the boys traveled with a single substitute player vs a club that boasts 3 senior sides.

It was a solid, hard game by this young side.  The Piggies dominated the first half, leading 33-0 before CW put on some of their premier reserve players (the 1st division side paired to their Premier side) in the second half.  These players made an impact for CW, closing the gap somewhat.  Regardless, the damage was done by a combination of textbook scrums, balanced scoring and clinical kicking from the forwards and backs.

For those looking at the BCRU website for results and standings, please note this game is listed under the Exhibition section.   It was actually a Times Cup game but the BCRU site isn’t set up for that competition so they are using the exhibition section.  The standings aren’t much help so presumably the VIRU is keeping track of that piece.

Next up is a trip to Comox this Saturday.  It’s great to have Comox competing in the island 1st division this year.  It’s a rare opportunity for both our men and women’s teams to play a true double-header.  This season CRFC has two opportunities – this weekend in Comox and later in Abbotsford.

1st Division Women

The ladies begin their season this weekend with friendly against Comox.  The women’s team chose to drop to 1st division this season because a number of players from last season are not returning.  This weekend’s game will be a friendly because the Piggies are short on numbers.  Thankfully, Comox is happy to accommodate so both sides will make it work.

Junior Rugby

The Junior Piggies start their season en masse this weekend!  We have a full compliment of programs this year, from the littlest mini piglets all the way up to U18s!  Schedules for most teams are online but there has been a number of changes in the last few weeks due to other clubs inability to form sides.  Changes will be posted as they are known.

Best of luck to all the teams in black and green this weekend!  Play with Piggie Pride!
