2nd Division Women 12 Comox Kickers 36

Our newest senior team team hit the field last weekend for their inaugural match.  Playing a 10-aside game, with girls who haven’t played in years, the Piggies put in a solid performance.

We thank Comox for coming down to play, even though they weren’t really scheduled to.  The schedules for both women’s teams is online now.

1st Division Men 25 UVic Noresman 33

Cowichan Scorers:

  • Kyle Joe: 1 try
  • Seth Davis:  1 try
  • Noah Dobson: 1 try
  • Jenner Teufel:  1 try, 1 convert, 1 penalty

The Piggies got off to a slow start last Saturday and found themselves down 15 points in the first 15 minutes.  As usual, the UVic teams was fast through the backs and made the Piggies pay early for missed tackles and missed kicks.  Unlike the previous game against Nanaimo however, the equally young Piggies, rallied back, established their game and closed the gap to 7 points by half.

The second half was nearly all Piggies.  The boys established their forward play, forcing UVic to take multiple penalties – including 2 yellows for persistent off-sides.  Though the boys dominated field position and had the numerical advantage, they couldn’t finish.  It really was a game of two halves – and looking at the game through that lens, it was 1-1.   By virtue of their 4 tries, the Piggies took a bonus point.

The boys are starting to gel nicely.  Consistent turn out at practice and more game experience will help that further.

This weekend the team travels down to face our forever-rivials JBAA.  Please note, the kick-off time is 12:30 pm due to the Royal family visit.

Piggie Nation members intending to watch should note that roads around James Bay will be closing at NOON Saturday.  Please review this traffic advisory from the City of Victoria for more information.

Premier Women @ Castaway-Wanderers

The Premier Women finally get their season going this weekend after a series of schedule changes and cancellations.  The girls are looking forward to getting going, and are especially pleased that they will be fielding a full side.  Some exciting new faces have joined the Piggies this season – namely Olympic 7s bronze medalist and big sister to Laura, Kelly Russell.

The Piggies finished last season strong and ready to make a play-off run this season!

Junior Rugby Galore!

All the Piglets will take the pitch this weekend!  Cowichan will host the Junior Girls Rugby Festival on Sunday starting at 11:30 am.  That will be preceded by Mini Rugby.

That U16 and U18 boys are traveling to Capilano and Westshore respectively.  Both of those teams started last weekend at CW.

U-18 Piggies bested CW 38 to 31 in a very entertaining match. With only one training session together and one reserve player, it was a very solid effort by the boys.

U-16 Piggies unfortunately fell short in numbers and on the score board 38 to 17.  CW loaned the Piggies 5 players to make up the game. Very good effort in spite of the low turn out.
