1st Division Men

The 1sts are heading into this weekend sitting in first place in the Cowichan Cup, riding a 3 game winning streak and looking for more.  The Piggies will face Westshore Velox at home for the first time this season and are expecting yet another battle.

The Cowichan Cup competition is a three way race with two weekends left in the regular season.  As mentioned, the Piggies lead the way with 15 points along with Nanaimo but CRFC has the point differential advantage.  Westshore is a close 3rd with 12 points.  One win, one loss, and a couple of bonus points either way will factor heavily in the final standings.

Westshore will be a different looking team than the last time we met – expect to see the addition of key players called up for the ARC series back in the line up.  The Piggies, for their part, have been playing steady, sensible, disciplined rugby over these last few weekends.  Strengthened by a deeper bench than they had in the fall, Coach Boner will expect much of the same – and more – this weekend.

Saturday looks to be a beautiful day and the boys in black and green are looking forward to playing in front of a big Piggie Nation crowd!

Premier Women

The ladies have been preparing hard since the last match against Westshore.  That one sided affair is in the rear view mirror and the Piggies are ready to defend home field and start the day on the green foot.

This will be do doubt an exciting game.  The Piggies will be featuring a few new, but familiar faces this weekend.   Along side our current national athletes Olympian Kelly Russell and Rugby Canada 15’s MVP, Captain Laura Russel, 2014 IRB player of the year Magali Harvey – starting outside centre and Olympian Kayla Mack start at flank!  Unfortunately, we will be missing our other two national staples to our line up Natasha and Tyson due to other commitments!

Between the 2 sides there are 10 national ladies attending RC camp Sunday.  We wish them all luck and health over the grueling couple of weeks at camp!   They will be sadly missed when Cowichan has to play Seattle the following weekends!

Kick off is at 11:30 and the ladies are hoping for a big crowd to welcome our newest Piggies!

St Patrick’s Day Party

Saturday wraps up with a celebration of the green!  The McCandless Family Band will be in the house, starting at 8:30.  Cover charge is $10 and guests are welcome.

Green all day, all night – green beer, green shots, green attire

See you there!

3rd Division Men @ JBAA

The mighty 3rds will travel to JBAA Sunday.  This is the last scheduled game for the 3rds and Captain Kim is hoping for a good turn out.   The Bays will be looking to even the score, having lost the last match at Piggie Park.  Please contact Kim if you’re available.
