Starting 2018 on the right foot

Games this weekend:

  • 1st division women @ Meralomas, 11:15 am kick off
  • 1st division men host Westshore, 1:00 pm kick off (Times Cup competition)

1st Division Men 28 – Langley 8

Cowichan Scorers:
Bruce Moss – 1 try
Owen Wood – 3 tries
Colten Smith – 1 try
Jenner Teufel –  2 converts

This past weekend’s match against Langley was an important test for the Piggies and a rare opportunity to wear our alternate Red Arrow kit (thanks again Red Arrow).  The Piggies previous match against a mainland side didn’t go as planned.  And as the road to the BC Championships will go through the mainland, this game would be an opportunity to build toward that end.  Langley was the bigger side but the Piggies played outstanding defense and attacked with speed.

Both sides traded points for most of the first half until Owen Wood scored two tries in the final few minutes of the half.  The Piggies went into the half time break leading 19-8.

The second half was a game of possession.  The Piggies kept the up the pace and slowly tired out the bigger Langley side.  Two more tries were added by the Piggies, including a third for Owen and one for Colten Smith.

This weekend the Piggies host Westshore in Times Cup action.  Cowichan is on top of the Times Cup standings and a Piggies victory this weekend will seal the competition.  Speed, possession and discipline will be the key in this game against an old rival.  Amazingly, this will be the first and only match against Westshore this season and given the stakes, the Piggies will be up for it.

Kick off is 1:00 pm.  Wear your rain gear Piggie Nation, it’s likely to be wet but the wood stove will be stoked and the beer will be cold and flowing!

1st Division Women

Their game last weekend against Comox got cancelled due to bad weather up island.  The ladies hoping to get things started with a road trip to Vancouver this weekend to play Meralomas.
