Triple Header, Saturday March 7, 2015

Piggie Park will host a rare triple-header event against the Nanaimo Hornets RFC.  The forecast is calling for an mild, sunny day –  beautiful conditions for what is sure to be a fun, competitive day of Island Rugby!

1st Division Women

11:30 am K/O vs Nanaimo Hornets

This weekend will be the first home game for the ladies of 2015.  The ladies are coming off another impressive road victory over Brit-Lions 66-24.  Thought the BCRU website hasn’t entered their score yet, this victory was enough to put them into first place in the Province Wide 1st Division.

3rd Division Men

1:00 pm K/O vs Nanaimo/VIU

Both Men teams had a bye last weekend and will be looking forward to returning to their early winning form after tough loss against Velox.  This weekend they will host a combination side of Nanaimo Hornets and Vancouver Island University.  This will be second time the Piggies host the VIU side and we’re happy to see they’ve partnered with Nanaimo to keep rugby alive in the Hub City.

The VIRU has published a schedule for the 3rd division through to April.  The schedule is on the Club website.

1st Division Men

2:30 pm K/O vs Nanaimo Hornets

The 1sts are facing a must bonus point win (5 pt) situation if they want to secure a home play-off spot.  The Piggies currently sit 3rd place in the Cowichan Cup standings , 10 points below Port Alberni Black Sheep.  Though the win-loss record is very close (4-3 for PA; 3-3 for CRFC), with Cowichan leading the season series 2-1, the Black Sheep have secured 7 bonus points to our 1.

The last match between the Piggies and the Hornets was way back in November and was decided by 2 points.  It was a hard hitting affair back then and much the same is expected tomorrow.

See you tomorrow Piggie Nation!
