We go up, we come down

After a weekend of successes, a weekend of disappointments.

1st Division Men 14 – Nanaimo Hornets 31

Cowichan Scorers:

Taylor de Souza – 1 try
Jenner Teufel – 1 try, 2 conversions

The season of ups and downs has come to an end for the 1st Division Men.

The Piggies’ season came to an end last Saturday with a loss to the Hornets in the VIRU semi-final game.

The Hornets came out fast, scoring within minutes of the opening kick-off and took a 18-0 lead by half.

The second half brought some changes with the Piggies scoring twice. On the first try, Mike Roberts got the ball to Andrew Gudmundseth, who fed the ball to Taylor de Souza, and he scored in the corner. Jenner Teufel slotted the tricky conversion from the sideline. On the second, Teufel scooped up the ball from a ruck and ran straight through to score under the posts, setting up an easy conversion for himself.

Unfortunately, Nanaimo countered quickly and with the lead they built in the first half, finished the game with a comfortable victory.  The Hornets move onto the Cowichan Cup final on Saturday at Westshore.  Nanaimo has had an outstanding season, also winning the Times Cup, and CRFC wishes them well tomorrow.

Premier Women 0 – Seattle Saracens 106

The second round of back to back games against Seattle did not end up in the positive column for the Premier Women.  No subs, two 2nds div players filling in, a 4 am start, and a 1:30 kick off time was just a bit too much.

It was a tough decision to go in the first place but with the 3rd,4th and 5th place spots all up for grabs with only a couple points separating the teams for a playoff spot, the ladies decided forfeit was too much of a risk (which is minus 4 points) after all their hard work this season.

Tough as the result was, the ladies now turn their attention to Burnaby tomorrow and building toward the play-offs.

Canada U19

Belated congratulations to Piggies Kyle Joe, Peyton Eagar, and Seth Purdy on their selection to the Canada U19 UK tour.

The boys will take on England tomorrow, Wales April 12 and Italy April 16.
