2019-2020 Season Opens This Weekend

Piggies take to the road to open the 2019-2020 season!

1st Division Men @ Port Alberni Black Sheep

The men will head to Port Alberni to open their season against long time island rivals, the Black Sheep.  Coach Wright has been preparing the guys for the last few weeks with fitness sessions at Maple Bay Beach, game prep at the Club.  Robin MacDowell and Gary Dukelow have stepped up for technical session and Rob Wright and Peter Budina have been assisting with specific unit instructions.

This will be the first of the six road games for the Piggies this season.  Team numbers are alright but could always be better (especially for road trips). Nonetheless, the Piggies will take a decent side to Port this weekend and are looking to start the season on the front foot.

The forecast is for heavy rain/monsoon so if you’re planning to travel up, dress accordingly!

1st Division Women @ Comox Kickers

The ladies will also travel to up-island for their season opener this weekend!  The early season turn out has been great so far.  The team travelling to Comox will be a mixture of youth and experienced players under the guidance of interim coach Marlene Donaldson.

Marlene is vastly experienced player from Westshore and was part of the combined CowShore side last season.  Mars works at Queen Margaret’s School in Duncan and has been involved with CRFC through the schools programs.  We are grateful to Marlene’s for stepping up, if only temporarily, after the retirement of Lee Taffy Burridge.

And on that note, our most profound thanks to Taffy for his stewardship of the ladies side for all these years – from coaching, to bus driver, to occasional club president!

Junior Rugby

Junior rugby is underway!  Schedules for the various age groups have arrived and will be posted to the Club’s website over the weekend.  Sorry for the delay.
