1st Division Women

For the second half of the season, the Piggies will join forces with the Westshore 1st division team.  Both sides have struggled with numbers this season to the point where a full schedule of games was unsustainable.  To keep players on the pitch and playing rugby, both clubs agreed to blend their sides into one.

This weekend the Piggies/WS side will visit Comox.  Comox is the top side on the Island, with a fast and young side.  The girls are looking forward to trip will be sporting new kit sponsored by

Photos will be posted to our social media channels on Saturday when the team is all together.

The schedule for the women’s team is posted online but the location of the home games will change.  Home games will be divided between Westshore and Piggy Park but which of those games has yet to be decided.  Stay tuned!

1st Division Men

The 1st XV are anxious to launch into the second half of their season against our great rivals, the Port Alberni Black Sheep.

The Sheep are the a single point above the Piggies in the standings in the BC Rugby 1st Division Competition.  Low numbers and the demands of travel to the mainland have been a struggle for both clubs this season.

For the Piggies, a home game will be a welcome start to 2019 after having to cancel last weekend’s game in Abbotsford (which was postponed from the fall).  The boys have been training hard and are looking to start 2019 on a positive note.

The forecast is calling for sun, kick-off is 1:00 pm!

Note:  the concession will not be open this weekend

Congrats and Welcomes

Congratulations to Piggy Alumni Doug Fraser for signing with the Austin Elite in the MLR.  Doug has had a very successful and busy 12 months – from earning his first cap during the Americas Rugby Challenge, to training full time with Canada through the spring and summer, and travelling with the side to Europe for the final World Cup Qualifier event in France (along with other Piggies alum Matt Evans and Brett Beukeboom).

Doug is the second Piggy alumni (and centre)i to join the MLR ranks.  Doug will line up against fellow centre, George Barton of the inaugural league champions Seattle Seawolves on March 16th in Austin in what should be an exciting match!

Cowichan Rugby welcomes Rowing Canada to their new training centre at Quamichan Lake!  The relocation of the national program is a huge feather in the cap for the Valley and will hopefully have a big impact on the Maple Bay Rowing Club.  CRFC and the Rowing Club have had a long friendship and we couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter in the Valley’s sporting culture!
