Howard and Marina Gerwing Award Fund

The Marina and Howard Gerwing Award Fund is intended to provide funding from its endowment for awards to be used for the assistance and growth of junior rugby in the Cowichan Valley and Gulf Islands.

Howard and Marina Gerwing and a matching donor pledged $10,000 to create a fund for awards for Cowichan Valley and Gulf Island rugby players. Cowichan Valley, outside of Victoria and Vancouver has probably produced as many National Team players at various age levels as anywhere in Canada.

Cowichan RFC Larry Thibodeau Memorial Award Fund

Established in February 2026, the Cowichan RFC Larry Thibideau Memorial Award Fund was created as an award for junior rugby players at Cowichan to assist in furthering both their post-secondary academic and rugby careers.

Award Eligibility:

  1. Cowichan RFC Junior player

  2. Must be enrolled at Cowichan Secondary, now Quw’utsun Secondary School

Award Selection Criteria:

  1.  Long-time Cowichan junior player

  2.  A junior-age boy or girl athlete

Application Process and Deadline:

  1.   Applications must be submitted by March 13

  2.  QSS Rugby coaches, along with counsellors, decide on the annual award winner
